Satya South Indian Restaurants and Satya Chai Lounge operates in 6 different locations in Auckland and were established in New Zealand over 20 years ago.

Satya is a multi-award winning restaurant that serves fresh, genuine and authentic South Indian cuisine using recipes that are centuries old.

We are looking for manpower with multi-talent skills and experience where qualifications would not be essential, who can be a quick learner and adapt to New Zealand work ethics.

An attractive remuneration package will be provided to the right candidate.

Guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours at the rate of $29.66 per hour

Depending on the season a maximum of 56 hours or more at the rate of $29.66 per hour

The cook/chef will be provided with initial orientation to the exclusive menu that is quite interesting and intensive.

Position purpose

Prepare and maintain excellent standards of food preparation and presentation for a range of meal types.

Main tasks

Core objectives include:

· Prepare and cook a range of meals for guests of the venue, including, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks to a high standard. You will be preparing and cooking food, monitoring the quality and presentation of the dishes during the entire process, controlling and directing the food preparation process and any other relative activities.

· Discussing preparing, cooking and staffing issues with relevant stakeholders.

· Supervise and manage kitchen operations as required, including designing new recipes, planning menu, estimating food requirements, food costs and labour costs, ordering food supplies, preserving food, selecting kitchen staff to hire. Communicate with the kitchen staff, the managers and wait staff regarding the menu design and food preparation

· Train kitchen staff and apprentices and discussing food preparation issues and advising on cooking procedures and teaching them the cooking techniques that we use and etc.

· Is required to demonstrate techniques and advise cooking procedures and processes in order to keep the food standards

· Adhere to health and safety standards and other regulations You will be explaining and implementing hygiene policies and examining equipment for cleanliness. It is the responsibility of the Chef to establish maintenance and cleaning schedules for equipment, storage, kitchen area, all floor areas, toilets, prep areas, dishwash area and any other area in the venue is in line with current health regulation standards

· You will be passionate about cooking and interested in South Indian cuisine

· Inventory Management - Chef will be ordering and purchasing food and supplies when it reaches re-order point. Maintain standards for food storage, rotation, quality, and appearance.

· Storing food in temperature controlled facilities - Chef is responsible for storing food at the right temperature.

· Arrange food on plates - Approving and polishing dishes before they reach the customer.

· Identify and report any hazards

Experience

· Relevant practical experience as a chef with the ability to display required competencies
